KS3 and KS4 PSHE Overview

Our Vision & Ethos

Our Personal Development curriculum (PSHE) is committed to educating the whole child supporting their spiritual, physical, intellectual, moral, social, cultural, and emotional growth. We believe that Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is an integral part of this. In the spirit of Bishop Richard Challoner, who taught us to ‘do ordinary things extraordinarily well’, we endeavour to raise students’ self-esteem, help them grow in knowledge and understanding while fostering respect for all individuals, encouraging empathetic, caring and sensitive attitudes to all.

In partnership with parents and carers, we aim to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate personal safety, relationships and health as they mature. Our curriculum provides age-appropriate, accurate information rooted in our Christian values, encouraging healthy attitudes towards personal development, relationships, and wellbeing.

Personal Development Delivery Model & Curriculum Structure

Our Personal Development Curriculum is delivered through a range of pathways:

  • Weekly Tutor Time Sessions: Taught in weekly form time slots, where age-appropriate topics are delivered by form tutors. Where applicable, tutor rotations allow flexibility to adapt throughout the year to meet contextual safeguarding needs or allow staff to deliver specialist topics.
  • Assemblies & Collective Worship: Personal Development themes are reinforced through collective worship and year group assemblies.
  • Cross-Curricular Alignment (Religious Studies & Science): Religious Studies and Science directly support and enhance our PSHE and RSHE program. Science delivers a foundational understanding of biological development, reproduction, puberty, and physical health, while Religious Studies provides context on ethics, personal responsibility and human dignity.
  • Guest Speakers & External Experts: Guest speakers, outside agencies and the school nursing team are utilised to enhance our PHSE curriculum where possible, offering expert insight on specialised health, safety, and guidance topics.
Statutory Parental Rights & Contact Information

Under statutory guidance, parents and carers have the right to request to withdraw their child from the sex education element of the PSHE programme. If you have any questions or concerns about this please contact the school office and your query will be directed to the appropriate staff member.
